the pool is OPEN!!!

I am not sure how many days there are between Labor Day and Memorial Day, but that is how many days the girls have been waiting for the pool to open! Both Lucy and Violet love swimming, so we are soaking up every ounce of pool time this summer. Today we were in water most of the day, the pool before naps and the water park after naps, so fun! Please join us soon, the more the merrier!

strawberry picking

The strawberry patch always provides the cutest pictures...
We had our annual outing with Grandma Jan today. Lucy was really into it and surprisingly, so was Violet. We picked, ate and then relaxed on the porch in the rocking chairs, it was perfect. Thanks Grandma!

This one is for Aunt Julie, we love the walking away pictures! :))

caterapillars and butterflies???

If you have a weak stomach, you probably don't want to read this post. Grandma and Grandpa C. gave the girls a butterfly house for Easter, cute isn't it? WELL... you have to grow/raise them from the caterpillar stage! Still think it's cute, keep reading.
So, we mailed away for our caterpillars, seriously questioning if they were going to arrive until I saw the look on the mailman's face when he pulled up and said, "Ma'am this box for you says Live."
We were so excited, Lucy called them our "worms." There were very detailed instructions with the little guys and I started to worry about their travel from California, since they are not suppose to be moved and kept out of the light etc. Anyway, we put the worms up on a shelf and looked at them for days, until we forgot about them. Suddenly our "worms," that started at 1/2 inch grew into three inch long fat caterpillars, it was incredible. We watched them every day until we forgot about them again and poof, they were hanging upside down in their cocoons! It is so gross and cool all at the same time. So, my next instruction was to take the lid off and pin it inside our mesh butterfly house. Are you kidding me?
Okay, I am a country girl, so I consider myself pretty tough when it comes to bugs and dirt....however, for some reason, this was freaking me out. I put plastic bags up to my elbows and decided to give it a go for Lucy's sake. I pulled the lid off and discovered they were hanging on a paper that I had to pull away, well the silk was so strong, it wouldn't tear, I was gagging. Oh and I am suppose to pin the paper onto the mesh wall, you can forget that, it is a miracle that I am following through at this point. I put the paper in the bottom of the house and zipped it shut. Of course it is suppose to be below 55 degrees tonight, so I cannot leave them outside, so they are sleeping with George in the mud room, ha! Now my fear is that these things won't actually emerge and Lucy will have to learn an early lesson on caterpillar death. I will be feeding them fresh flowers and sugar water until we know for sure and if we get a butterfly, you can bet there will be a post picture, but for now you get to see the nasty things hanging(the rest of the stuff is food and poo, how do you like that?)
Oh, the things we do for our kids.

cottage cheese

I am working on regular food with Violet, she is not interested in chewing much. Here she is attacking cottage cheese. Any bite size food ideas?
